One of the most “colourful” characters to have lived in the Highlands was the infamous Aleister Crowley. Once known as the “the wickedest man in the world”, he lived at Boleskine house on the shores of Loch Ness. He started his ‘career’ in the occult in 1898 when he joined the  Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, where he was trained in ceremonial magic by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers.
